What are dental implants?

Dental Implants offer a permanent and comfortable solution for replacing loose, uncomfortable dentures and single or multiple missing teeth. Initially an artificial tooth root called The Implant is inserted into the jaw. This Implant is a tiny metal post made of surgical grade titanium which fuses to the bone. Once the titanium post/implant is fully integrated to the bone an artificial tooth/ porcelain crown is attached to the implant. Implants can be used to support a single crown for replacing a single missing tooth. They can also be used to support a bridge or a denture when there are multiple missing teeth. Care is taken to match any artificial teeth to the colour and shape of the existing teeth.

Why we recommend dental implants?

Dental Implants have on average a success of over 95%. The Implants are totally secure and stable as they are anchored into the jaw. Unlike conventional bridges which involve tooth preparation, dental implants are not supported by adjacent teeth; there is, therefore, no risk of damaging or affecting the structure of existing teeth. Dental Implants require no special maintenance apart from the usual oral hygiene care of brushing and flossing, and regular Check-ups and Hygiene visits every 6-12 months.

How would dental implants be palced?

First, the implant, which looks like a screw or cylinder, is placed into your jaw. Over the next two to six months, the implant and the bone are allowed to bond together to form an anchor for your artificial tooth. During this time, a temporary tooth replacement option can be worn over the implant site.
Often, a second step of the procedure is necessary to uncover the implant and attach an extension. This small metal post, called an abutment, completes the foundation on which your new tooth will be placed. Your gums will be allowed to heal for a couple of weeks following this procedure. Finally, a replacement tooth or teeth will be fixed on the implant.
